Leicester West is a borough constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

Boundaries

Leicester West constituency covers the western part of Leicester, encompassing the council wards of Beaumont Leys, Fosse, New Parks, Western Park, Braunstone Park and Rowley Fields, Westcotes, most of Abbey and small parts of Latimer and Castle. The other seats in Leicester are Leicester East and Leicester South.

Unemployment

Leicester West, as of 2009 and in the depth of a severe recession, has the fourth highest level of unemployment in Britain, with 13.8% of residents registered unemployed. Most of the unemployment is concentrated in areas such as Braunstone and Saffron Lane, which are traditionally among the most deprived parts of the city. [1]
